Then and now: Whites Home & Auto – 1984

In April of 1984 Ronnie and Betty Jo Smitherman bought the Whites Home and Auto Store in Lewisville. They ran it as such until White’s was bought out by Western Auto Supply Co. The store was operated as a Western Auto store with an emphasis on auto parts and service as well as lawn and garden equipment, supplies and hardware. In 2003 the parent company of Western Auto closed down. The Smitherman’s changed the store name to Smitherman’s Hardware and Equipment and went right back to work. Everything stayed the same moving forward except with less emphasis on automotive parts and accessories.

In 2012 the two sons Craig and Brad Smitherman purchased the store from parents  Ronnie and Betty Jo. Although you can find Ronnie at the store most days and Betty Jo there from time to time.

Longtime employees at the store include Esther Kenney, Office Manager. Donna Livengood, Floor Sales Support. Dennis Shoaf, Senior Technician. Jerry Harper, Senior Technician. Jordan Hicks, Allover Support. And a great stream of part time helpers through the years.

In business as in life, changes are ongoing. Products, technology, rules and regulations change all the time. The one thing that we can control is the level of service that we provide at our store either on the sales floor or in the repair shop.

Thank You,
The Smitherman Family
